About BPS Memorial

Dear Friends, Family and Loved Ones of Brian Schwartz,

The sudden death of our dear friend has left us all devastated. His untimely passing has forever changed our lives. It is the many memories we all share with Brian that helps each one of us move forward.

As many of you know, a group of Brian's childhood friends are coordinating efforts to build a memorial to commemorate his life. After hours of collaboration among Brian's friends, as well as discussions with Brian's family, we determined that the ultimate tribute would be for an athletic field to be renamed in Brian's honor. In hindsight this was an obvious choice. Brian loved to spend time at the ball parks interacting with the people of the community and, of course, Sheryl and their children. And above all else we agreed to do something that reflects "who" Brian was . . . and what Brian stood for -- the importance of his marriage, friendships and, perhaps most importantly, his commitment to fatherhood. We, of course, also wanted the memorial to be something that Brian's family could take great pride in.

Our next decision, was which field to pursue? We decided that the baseball field at Sunset Park was the most logical choice. Sunset Park was a special place where Brian spent many hours playing ball as a child, and then coaching as Blake and Emma traveled a similar path. We took our idea to the Park District of Highland Park to discuss our intentions. The Park District board of commissioners was immediately supportive. After a number of meetings the idea became more refined. We would transform the [main baseball field] at Sunset and create a venue that would enhance any child's experience at the ball park. We want to create a field where children and their families can go and feel like they are playing baseball at a special place. This is something we were all convinced that Brian would truly be proud of.

As to be expected these renovations do not come with out a price. The renovations that are required to build the memorial will likely exceed $300,000. This is a goal we are committed to raise. So with this letter we respectfully request that you consider making a donation to support this effort and make the dream of this special place a reality. We want to create a place in Brain's honor, where families spend time with their children, and where we all can live, love and laugh with each other for many years to come. And when we do . . . Brian's memory will be in our hearts and souls.
